Health Careers Pathways for University Students

Pa ahec SCHOLARS

The Pennsylvania AHEC Scholars Program seeks students in Pennsylvania health profession degree programs who are interested in working in rural and underserved communities to apply for a competitive, interprofessional two-year, hands-on supplementary course of study focused on providing care in communities with limited resources.

Applicants from disadvantaged and/or rural backgrounds and underrepresented minorities are encouraged to apply.

Community-Oriented Rural Education

The Pennsylvania AHEC system offers Community-Oriented Rural Education (CORE) rotations to medical students and residents, nurse practitioner and physician assistant students, and dental students. These 4 to 8 week rotations allow you to explore the community surrounding a rural practice while learning from physicians and providers who work in the community. PRINCETON REVIEW PREP COURSES

The National AHEC Organization (NAO) has renewed its partnership with The Princeton Review (TPR) to provide, among other services, self-paced prep courses for AHEC-affiliated students at a reduced rate. Available self-paced courses:

MCAT/DAT/GRE/NCLEX-RN

Future Docs

AHEC Future Docs turns ambition into acceptance. You’ll swap guesswork for a clear plan, strengthening your MCAT strategy, telling your story with confidence, and getting real clinical exposure through physician shadowing.

Along the way, you’ll learn exactly how and when to apply, build relationships with mentors and clinicians who serve rural and underserved communities, and present the kind of mission-driven readiness admissions committees look for.
